A Leauki's Writings

Does anybody else think that the world might soon run out of awards to give to President Obama?

And he still hasn't achieved anything, let alone made peace between any parties.

George W. Bush was instrumental in setting up peace treaties in Liberia and Sudan (between the Arab government and the Christian south). But actual achievement is worth so little these days...

COMMUNISM

If Obama was all they could come up with this year, they should have kept the prize as a no winner this year.

Fox reported others who were under consideration.

You know...this seems similar to the whole Chicago outrage; I mean, it would have been an awesome thing if we had gotten the Olympics in Chicago.

Have you checked our those cities who have had the Olympics and the fact that they are in debt as a result all upon the shoulders and pocketbook of the taxpayers.

So, no it wouldn't have been an awesome thing for the people of Chicago or for the State of Illinois. They can't AFFORD IT.

Yet we can afford other things? Riiiight, well honestly, I would rather "not afford" things that could bring pristige, jobs, publicity, and so on to our country...the finance things that do nothing but make things problematic (War, Doma, etc.)

COMMUNISM

Yup, hasn't worked so well (Thanks greed, ambition, etc.), but I don't view it in the paranoid way that most do, sorry.

You can't feed your family on prestige and publicity AJ.  You sound like a very young, inexperienced person to me.  Sure, it would be "cool" to have the Olympics in Chicago but it doesn't mean it would be a good thing for the city or state.  That whole reality of "someone has to pay for the cool stuff" becomes a problem.

Have you lived in a communist country?

hey ChuckCS That is not what I meant nor said.

ChuckCS

You don't even want him to do something that turns out good in the end because that'd prove you all wrong lol - or so it seems at times.
I can agree with just about everything you said before, but this makes no sense. You seem to be under the impression that something that Obama does will yield positive results as oppose to saying could turn out good. I have noticed how often people complain about generalizations and broad brushing people yet this is exactly what you did here by assuming anything Obama does will do good and that everyone who's against him simply does not want Obama to succeed so as to not look bad. I find it very insulting to have my opinions taken as "politically motivated" all the time and not as a concern from my point of view.
I didn't say that anything he does will turn out good, but most bloggers here seem to think  that nothing he will ever do policy wise will be good or have positive results. Your impression seems very unyielding in that.

Oh, and in breaking news - President Obama has said that the $1.4 million prize money he'll be receiving will be going towards the national debt.

What give a penny, spend a trillion? I would prefer the Nobel committee to to make out all donations to cover uncontrolled spending directly to the IRS in the future.

To Obama, good job bringing the money to the US, much better to keep it out of the hands of those that hate us around the world. I hope you or someone else wins it again next time. Look how nicely it's keeping Al Gore jetting around the world, while his big house is lit up like a Christmas tree, preaching global warming. Go USA.... you other world peaceniks suck... slam dunked by a wet behind the ears US president to boot. I'll bet you can hear the laughing from the WH clear throughout the National Mall.

I realize that; I did mention new jobs that would (theoretically) be created. It would also tend to draw a lot of people from everywhere, which could entice people to reinvest in the city. Such things might include entrepreneurship, actually cleaning the city up, upgrading facilities, etc. A lot could be done, if done right.*sighs* There we go again with the young and naive comment. Why does everyone always use that? It's insulting really. I mean I don't say others here are old and cynnical. Just annoying, and - no offense - feels like a damn cop out.

I haven't actually, and yes I know you'll probably mention all the harsh negatives and realities and so on - that's fine, but I've researched it and read and talked with people who have lived there. With all of that in mind, with all due respect, I still stand by my opinion on it. I'm realistic that in practice, in the real world, communism won't work for many reasons - but the concept itself  in theory - I believe is a heck of an idea.

The comment was, again, an attempt at humor/sarcasm. My bad...maybe I should provide a key next time.

Fox news reported a while ago he was giving it to charity.

Communism violates the fundamental rights of man.

Think Freedom....there is no freedom under the rule of Communism. No freedom to own property, no freedom of religion. When Castro took over Cuba, he confiscated all the property, lands, buildings, schools, and closed every Church on the island.

Under the Communist system, everything and everyone belongs to the Sate including children.

Which is what they want.  Remember, liberals want everyone to be equally miserable, just as long as they can claim it's "fair".

It was a joke...

It's safe to say that some people don't believe in the rights of man, period; though they may claim otherwise. In fact, some of those people who claim that they believe in such, change their mind when they get to other topics. (War, etc.)

Lula, you're misunderstanding the theory behind communism. At it's purest form, theoretically (granted, not practically) all needs would be met and "the people" would be happy. Anyways, like I said - I realize and agree that it just won't work with the way the world is. However, I think, in theory, it is a noble idea.

Also, you're incorrect - under communism the government doesn't  own anything (per se).

Again, this is all theory, and really, Castro isn't truly communist. Heck, the soviet union (if you truly apply communistic theory rigidly) was not communist. It was, at best, a mix of socialism, dictatorship, oligarchy, and a few other things.

Maybe it was the Beer Summit.

Now I'm probably as big a critic of Obama as most here. But it's not the man, it's his policies I take issue with. In this case, it is not something he asked for or had any influence in getting. In fact I liked his press conference on the matter, semi-classy. Be angry if you like, but direct it to where it is deserved, the Nobel folks and the majority of US voters that made it possible. I can think of many more places I wouldn't want the money heading to besides the US. If the world wants to give us money because they don't like Bush, I say run for office Jeb. Maybe we can get more cash, plus I'd love to see the libs of the world lose it. I give Obama his share of grief, but as I always say, hate the game not the player.

As for the Hitler comment...they gave it to Arafat...who was at least as intent on killing Jews as Adolf.

I am not sure if Barry-O asked for it or not, he has a lot of handlers and buffers but I don't think he is above having one of his minions (or controllers, if you favor the conspiracy scenario) put his name in the hat and greasing the skids to ensure success.  On the other hand, what happened in his bid to get the Olympics?  It's a strange, strange world we live, Master Jack.

MamaCharlie says:  this incident has illustrated for me once again, how meaningless are the "honors of men"

But in answer to Leauki's original question...The Heisman Trophy will be awarded in a few months, the Lombardi, whatever they call the World Series trophy, the Oscars, The World Cup, The America's Cup, and who knows, next summer at Wimbledon...
