A Leauki's Writings

I have left Dublin and moved to Switzerland.

I bank here offered me truly vast amounts of money to dance the Windows platform expert for a year on their stage. It more than triples my income. If this project works out I can do what I want for a couple of years and won't have to worry about working.

I moved here three days ago, signed the contract, rented a flat and got organised. My computer*, Cyrus**, will arrive next week. The rest of my stuff from Dublin will travel to Berlin to storage in December.

Eventually I will return to Ireland. There are still some things I haven't done yet in my career and a few more companies to work for in Dublin.

*A 2009 Mac Pro. Two CPUs a 2.26 GHz, 24 GB, 1+1+2+2 TB, DVD, Bluray

**I name my desktop computers after appropriate Persian kings. I had an iMac named Xerxes. If I ever buy a Mac mini as a test device with no further function, I'll name it Ahmadinejad.

You HAVE to post pictures of you in Lederhosen and yodeling in the Alps!

Congratulations on the job and the move!  Post about your new haunts. I would love to read them.

Lederhosen is Bavarian, I think.

Incidentally, I am back on JU, I guess.

So good seeing you back, Leauki! I'd wondered what happened to you, and worried.

I wish you Mazel Tov (בהצלחה ומזל טוב) in your new position!

I missed the OP last fall, Leauki.  Sounds like Denver didn't pan out.  Having been to both Denver & Switzerland, you made a wise choice.  With the caveat that I've not suffered through an Irish winter and only visited on 3 summer occasions, I'd probably favor Ireland over Switzerland, but then I'm a golf nut.

Good to hear of/from you and glad to see you back on the forum.

Welcome back to the forums.

My favorite thing about Switzerland has to be Toblerone chocolate bars. I got shamelessly hooked on them while serving in Germany in 1974.

I have been in the new position for almost a year. It's a one-year project too.

I have something planned for the coming months, I'll report on it here on JU. It's huge. I'll be right in the middle again, just like in 2008.

And in January I'll move to Israel for a few months at least. I have some serious studying to do.

Stay tuned...

I'll be back with a vengeance in a few weeks. I posted a lot on Facebook but now intend to revive both my blog and my JU presence. I have way to much to say for Facebook and I am starting to dislike the idea that in order to post something that many people will read I have to keep a huge list of "friends" whereas I only know maybe 20% of those.

Most of my regular readers here on JU are closer friends of mine than most of my official friends on Facebook ever will be. So I have decided to use Facebook more often just to announce what I wrote elsewhere, like here or on my blog and for short announcements and comments. But the important stuff will be here again.

This will be, I think, my third longer appearance on JU.

But I still have a few months of work ahead of me before I start.
