FM presents: 2nd disengagement from Gaza

Five years after Israel's unilateral disengagement from Gaza, Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman has proposed a new plan aimed at ridding Israel of any responsibility for the coastal enclave, the Yedioth Ahronoth daily reported Friday.

Lieberman is troubled by the fact that despite the evacuation of all Israeli settlements in Gaza and a full IDF withdrawal, the disengagement was not acknowledged by the international community, which still demands that Israel provide the Strip's residents with their basic necessities.

According to the FM's plan, Gaza – with European assistance – will become an entirely independent entity. In this way, Lieberman believes, the world will finally recognize the end of the Israeli occupation there.

In contrast to the policy which sanctified the blockade on Gaza, Lieberman's plan calls to fully lift the siege and allow ships to dock in the Strip without being inspected in Israel first. Ships that will undergo inspection in Cyprus or Greece will be allowed to continue towards Gaza. According to the proposal, Israel will also allow European countries to implement plans aimed at improving the lives of the coastal enclave's residents. Israel's border with the Hamas-ruled territory will be hermetically sealed.

The FM plans to present his plan to Catherine Ashton, the European Union commissioner for foreign affairs, during her scheduled visit to Israel next week. Ashton will be accompanied by six European foreign ministers.

Lieberman is expected to ask his European counterparts to propose that Hamas construct a new power plant to generate electricity, a seawater desalination plant and a wastewater purification plant.

The FM also supports any international plan for the mass-construction of apartments for Gaza's residents.

Yes, the well-known evil racist right-wing extremist Avigdor Lieberman calls for a complete end of the blockade and for complete independence for Gaza, including diplomatic recognition (I got that from the German article) of Hamas.

Why not?

It won't work, of course.

But the EU will send so much money, it will be ridiculous. While people in Sudan are starving the EU will make sure that Gaza will become one of the richest places on earth.

Well, why not.

But the problem is that the world will still condemn Israel for firing back at Gaza when rockets hit Israeli cities. This is why I still think that this plan must be complemented with my money-for-rockets idea.

Appropriate you would use American dollars. For that is who would pay it. The UN does not care about spending OPM. That is why your plan will never work.

Yea, sorry about that.

But remember that aid is measured in dollars. You will pay to the UN anyway. And you won't pay more just because the UN waste more money on paying Israel reparations than for actual aid to Palestinians.

While any left-wing politician can argue in congress that giving aid to Palestine is important, it will be more difficult for him to argue that the aid must be increased because most of it was wasted for damages caused by Palestinian terrorists.

Hence this shouldn't cost you more. It will merely route the money you give anyway away from terrorists and towards an ally.

Today - do not bet on tomorrow.

You always need something to keep the lefties happy.

But if the US decided not to give the UN any more money tomorrow, I would be among the first to celebrate the decision.

However, you can be sure that the UN will always have enough money to help the Palestinians. So I don't see a problem with using those funds, even if not the US but Europe pay for them.

Let's assume that the US give money to the UN for this. In that case, you get a slightly better deal because a lot of that money will flow to an ally rather than an enemy. You win.

Now let's assume that the US stop giving money to the UN. In that case, you can view the EU spending money to help the Palestinians and a lot of that money will go to your ally instead. You win.

The ally buys military hardware from you. You win.

The ally develops new weapons systems. You are the most obvious customer. You win.

The deal is not excellent for the US but much much better than the current situation where you simply pay money to Israel's enemies and to Israel so she can defend herself against them.

If the price goes up, we both get a propaganda victory because it will be obvious that Palestinian terrorism, which would have cuased too many rocket payments to Israel was to blame for the need for more money.

Remember that more money will flow anyway, regardless of how it is spent.

Your answer is based upon logic and sound reasoning. And that is why it is just a pipe dream. This IS the UN we are talking about. Not some sane, rational reasoning organization.
