Abbas said:

"I am committed to whatever decision you take. If you agree, we will go for [indirect] talks and give [the Israelis] a chance. If you reject [this idea], I will abide by your decision... If there is another alternative, tell me what it is. If the alternative is war [with Israel], I promise you that I will be the first [to set forth]."

Qatar answered:

This elicited a jocular reply from Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jasim Aal Thani, who said: "Abu Mazen, we fight only with money."

Egypt answered:

Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmad Abu Al-Gheith also replied jokingly: "Let those who have not signed a peace treaty with Israel go to war."

Note that the guy willing to fight a war is our "peace partner".

I wonder if US support for someone who wants to start a war against Israel is entirely within the scope of the US' alliance with Israel?

I assume it goes without saying that what the Arabs are discussiong, a possible war with Israel, is a violation of the 1994 treaty between Israel and the PLO.

Treaties are merely promises of civilzed men.  They have no teeth or steel in them.  And their reliability is based on the honor of the men entrusted to carry out the promises.

So much for treaties.  The only one that seems to put any weight in them are the israelis.  The current administration of the US has shown that promises are meant to be broken, and of course we have seen the "negotiations" of the PA.

It doesn't matter whether Israel keeps treaties, because liberals will always take it as read that Israel breaks every treaty.

And it doesn't matter whether the PLO ever keep a treaty, because liberals will always claim that they do.

Even after the second "Intifada" the honesty of the PLO and their willingness to abide by treaties is beyond doubt.
