A Leauki's Writings

Nigeria's Christians and Animinists are fighting against a recent (last few years) surge in violence due to attacks by "Muslims" who have little tolerance for western (or African) values.

Now Nigeria's army strikes back:

Troops killed about 100 militants by an AP reporter's count, half of them inside the sect's mosque. Soldiers then launched a manhunt, and Yusuf was reportedly found in a goat's pen at the home of his in-laws.

I do not want to say that Nigeria was wrong in how they reacted, but can you imagine what the world reaction would be if Israel had done this???

On a somewhat related subject, a Nigerian cardinal harshly criticises America's Christians:

When the Vanguard reporters cited statistics that there are fewer young men becoming priests in America, the Cardinal responded “those people there (in the United States) they don’t value anything anymore. And how do you want priests to come from a place like that? Look at all those who call themselves pastors and all what not down there.”

He continued scornfully, “They ride in helicopters, jets and we also want to ride in jets and helicopters. What example are they giving to the populace, to the common people they’re preaching to? We have to get our priorities right.”

I believe he has a point.

Western arrogance makes us believe that we always know best (and often we do), but sometimes we make mistakes. And then perhaps we need to learn from Africans who don't make those mistakes.
