I had alread written about Jewish "settlements" here:
http://citizenleauki.joeuser.com/article/357556/Meddling_in_Israel_Obama_and_the_Settlements
In that post I pointed out that the "settlements" are actually built by Palestinian Arabs who are quite happy to have a good income building them.
In an earlier post I referred to the situation in Hevron, where the Arab land owner intervened when a foreign "peace activist" tried to demolish a synagogue built on Arab land.
Contrary to public perception in the west many Palestinian Arabs do not feel that there exists some kind of natural law that says that Arab countries must be Jew-free, and Arabs and Jews can live in peace as neighbours; despite the world's best efforts at keeping them apart and in eternal struggle.
The Aspen Daily News report that Paleastinian Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayyad (see note 1) has said that a Jewish minority in a future Arab state in Palestine is perfectly acceptable and he compared such Jewish inhabitants to Israeli Arabs:
Palestinian National Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayyad said Saturday that Jews would enjoy freedom and civil rights in a future Palestinian state.
...
“In fact the kind of state that we want to have, that we aspire to have, is one that would definitely espouse high values of tolerance, co-existence, mutual respect and deference to all cultures, religions. No discrimination whatsoever, on any basis whatsoever.
“Jews to the extent they choose to stay and live in the state of Palestine will enjoy those rights and certainly will not enjoy any less rights than Israeli Arabs enjoy now in the state of Israel,” Fayyad said.
End quote.
I wonder how the world will deal with Jewish and Arab opposition. My guess is that the will of Jewish "settlers" and Arab construction workers and the willingness of the prime minister to accept Jews living in the West-Bank will be totally ignored.
Major Jewish settlements will be annexed into Israel. Major Arab settlements in Israel can be annexed to an Arab state, if the inhabitants so wish. Smaller Jewish settlements can become a Jewish minority in an Arab state; perhaps the only Arab country with a significant Jewish population (this time with all the same rights as Arab citizens) apart from Morocco.
But how can we sell this to Hamas and the UN?
Note 1: Prime minister Salam Fayyad is a member of the "Third Way" party, a minor Arab party in the West-Bank who last got about 3% of the vote. The party is pro-western and wants peace. Palestinian Authority president Abbas named Fayyad prime minister after Hamas took Gaza.
That the number of Palestinian Arabs voting for peace is even below 10% should be considered a problem. There is a stark contrast between individuals and how they act in greater numbers. While individual Arabs are fine to have Jewish neighbours, they do tend to vote for the "death to the Jews" parties in elections for some reason.
The world usually reads that as a willingness to make peace.
