A Leauki's Writings

As a memorial, I give you the names and ages of the dead children, as provided by the rebel Darfur Justice and Equality Movement (Sudan Tribune, March 24): Abdel-Latif Hassan Gar El-Nabi, 7 months old; Ahmed Musa, 7 months old; Munir Mohamed Ibrahim, 9 months old; Esam Babiker Yacoub, 3 years old.

At another camp, Otash, after the mother of a 10-year-old, weak from dehydration after vomiting all night long, took him to a clinic, the door was locked. Said a relative of the boy: "The white people used to come every day. Now the clinic is closed." It had been a service of the International Rescue Committee, one of the organizations thrown out of Sudan by Gen. al-Bashir

...

During his presidential campaign, Barack Obama said the mass rapes and killings orchestrated by Gen. al-Bashir had left a "stain on our souls." And, with a heavy heart, he promised "never again." Yet, during Mr. Obama's widely publicized March 24 press conference, he didn't say a word about Darfur.

Perhaps Mr Obama's "change" meant that he won't even look at Sudan. And perhaps "never again" was promised with that same idea in mind.

He addressed the Muslim world to tell them that from now on America will try to be better (and nobody will have to live with a Jewish neighbour either).

The "Muslim world"... Who is the "Muslim world"? It's not Ahmed Musa, 7 months, mentioned above; or Munir Mohamed Ibrahim, 9 months, also mentioned above. Obama did not speak to them. He didn't speak about them either.

George Bush did.

Whatever the evils of George Bush and whatever one's opinion is regarding him, nobody can claim that he simply ignored the victims of genocide. He didn't do enough. That's true. But he didn't tell the "Muslim world" that everything is dandy and they can continue as they always have.

I am annoyed with President Obama. I am annoyed because he, an African-American (which means nothing), whom Africans have celebrated (which should mean something) isn't doing anything for Africans.

He wants friendship and dialogue with their murderers.

He should use his influence for good.

Leauki, what strikes me is Obama is propagandizing that he is for human rights especially when it comes to the Middle East with Israel.  Israel needs to give up more in the name of peace add more rhetoric here....

As you said NO mention about the Darfur.  Doesn't take a stand about Iran or any other Muslim country about the human rights there.

As I know you are well aware, Israel is leading the WORLD in human rights and there is such extreme polarity from the Muslim countries that they cannot even be compared.  The fact that Obama went after Israel the way he did in Cairo and neglects the ACTUAL tragedies proves the hypocricy of who he is.

He speaks out against Israel but doesn't want to meddle in Iran?

I would love to hear someone actually define his foreign policy!

I think Israel should be more forward.

If the subject of "settlements" comes up, Israel should say that it won't discuss "settlements", only "towns" and that the issue can only be addressed once the PA allows its citizens to sell land to Jews without penalty. (Otherwise, Israel should ask, how can we find out which "settlements" are "illegal".)

If "land for peace" come sup, Israel should ask how much land Israel will get and from whom.

Israel should also declare that it is ready for peace NOW and that Egypt can annex Gaza and Jordan the West-Bank sans Jerusalem if they like IMMEDIATELY, so that Palestinian Arabs can be free from Israeli control NOW if they want to.

Israel should also publicly and often demand Gilad Shalith's return.

All-in-all I feel that Israel should turn the questions around. Anything asked of Israel should also be asked of the Arab countries.

Afterall, we are told, we are "partners", aren't we? It's not the Arabs granting peace in exchange for Israel delivering stuff. Or are we perhaps thinking that peace is something that would exist if only the Arabs would grant it?

That's, I'm afraid, his idea of dialogue. I believe he really is of the mindset of people who simply ignore human rights violations if they are done to irrelevant people.

I'm not sure what Obama even has to do with Israel. People there don't like him. His only influence in Israel is that he can threaten.

I think this might just be his foreign policy: bullying the only independent non-Arab country in a region otherwise totally ruled by the Arab League.
