A Leauki's Writings

Average global temperatures have been going up since the 1910s and despite falling occasionally keep going up by the extreme amount of nearly a degree Celsius.

(Note that this means that in some places average temperatures are now two degrees higher than 1910 and in some places they are one degree lower than in 1910.)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Instrumental_Temperature_Record.png

Since 2002 average temperatures have been falling by 0.2 degrees. In 2006 Al Gore realesed the movie "An Inconvenient Truth" just in time to observe the temperature falling further reaching nearly the level of 1990. This inconvenient truth was not mentioned in the movie.

The truth is, we don't know what's causing global warming. Did humanity cause the rise in temperature? Did Al Gore's movie cause the fall in temperature? I don't know.

What I do know, however, is how invested many people are in the absolute truth of the dogma that humanity is causing this temperature change and that humanity can influence it.

So here's my prediction:

1. If the current trend of the average temperature going down continues, global-warming enthusiasts will claim that the Kyoto treaty, which allows India and China to pollute as much as they can, has saved the planet.

2. If the current trend of the average temperature going down does not continue, global-warming enthusiasts will claim that the Kyoto treaty was not enough or that it would have been enough if only the US had signed it (and broken it like all the other parties to it).

On my side, I will promise the following:

Should it ever turn out to be true that Chinese and Indian CO2 does not influence global warming while European and American CO2 does, I will admit that I was totally wrong about the Kyoto treaty.

My prediction is people will financially benefit from the BS that is human influenced Global Warming. Just look at my recent article.

you forgot to mention how obama will get credit for solving the global warming crisis.

There are computer models that offer projections based on different scenarios.  I think they're probably somewhere on the IPCC website.

I honestly wish politics would leave science the hell alone, though.

There are computer models that offer projections based on different scenarios.  I think they're probably somewhere on the IPCC website.

Computer models are fairly laughable though, even at the best of times. We can barely predict weather patterns suitable for an accurate forecast for one week ahead. Predicting everything's effect on everything else is still beyond our best technology, and yet it's essential to understanding what humanity's influence on air is (eg climate change).

I'm not saying we should do nothing, but when a single volcano puts out more climate affecting pollution in a single eruption than most countries do in a year it's a little hard to say we're at fault. The advantages of cleaning up polluting industries are clear enough on their own, just in terms of the health of the local people and the surrounding forests, rivers, farms - even lawns and gardens benefit from reductions in coal-fired power and low levels of heavy metals in the environment.

I guess what I'm saying is (and I'm not accusing you of being part of this), climate change is a distraction which gives the wilfully ignorant and the maliciously profit-seeking an excuse to continue to corrupt the land and pollute, because "it hasn't been proven". Well, that may be, but we've proven that cancer rates are higher around coal mines, and that heavy metals in the river cause heaps of public health problems. I think that's enough to be going on with. If it has some as yet unknowable but positive effect on the world's temperature, then that's just a great bonus.

The problem arises when you replace perfectly harmless CO2 "pollution" with much lower amount of actually toxic compounds..

Or for example, put volcanic ash out to "counter" the CO2 "global warming effect" and the volcanic ash causes acid rain.

I beleive in a 0% pollution industry, because the AIR we breath is communal property and it should not be befouled, but anything that is completely HARMLESS is not pollution, it is merely emission.

I second that.

I agree politicians should leave science alone... but the only application of that is creationism. thats it.

Global warming "evidence" politics, its meant to tug our heartstrings and induce panic and paranoia to advance an agenda.

When the FOUNDER OF GREENPEACE tells you that blaming global warming on humans is bullshit perpetuated to undermine capitalism, then you should probably listen. (unless you are of scientific view, in which case you should already know without him telling you what the problems with this "Science" are, its as scientific as scientology)

When these global carbon credits take off it will be worth billions...money from nothing. Nobody should be naive enough to see that's what is driving this. If only the weather would cooperate more. The big snow storm in the news isn't helping. I wonder how many faux business will spring up just to sell their carbon credits, no need to actual produce anything and little overhead. Just like paying farmers not to plant. I doubt any politicians were smart enough to approach scientists about this. The scientist probably hold some responsibility for it's politicizing. Everyones is an ac,tivist these days.

penn and teller did a bullshit show about carbon credits...

the found some of those faux businesses you mentioned selling carbon credits... get this... to INDIVIDUALS Who want to offset their household carbon emissions... all of it goes to the pocket of the "business owners"

Some more of those 'inconvenient truths.'

The global warming crisis is just like those late night, get rich, infomercial schemes... the only ones getting rich are those hawking the "product". A few will make a lot of money, the government will take in more taxes (to spend on their pet projects), and the silly suckers that believe in global warming, along with everyone else, will foot the bill - as usual. And the earth will warm and cool, just as it has since it was formed - before humans arrived.
